2012 is officially my last season as an owner! Feel very liberated as I've pulled a Favre and asked the old furball/ cudda regulars about quitting since 2008.

I think I've found a best solution for me personally. I will be co-owning a team but have no financial or vested interest. Ownership will just allow me to access the message board. I've volunteered to be a non owner commish so I can run the draft, review trades, and monitor the league. I'm excited about this as I enjoy the friendships I have with the owners, but have become worn out on the fantasy part.

I explained to the league that I no longer watching NFL games. For me every play is watching where my players are, or what my rival's players are doing. I could list off the 228 rostered players and who owns who, but I can't currently tell you who's leading 5 of the 8 NFL divisions.

The move also leaves the door open to return, but I'm 99% sure I will never own a team other than a fill in for last minute owner who bails.

I plan to still stop in here regularly, but admit the changes this group has encountered compared to the glory days of 2007-2009 have also made my fantasy fun diminish.

It gets brought up at least once a year, but losing Verbie, Felli, BreesisGod, and just about everyone was a blow to my fantasy enjoyment. I think in the good old days I enjoyed the forum you guys created as much as my fantasy league and fantasy games. I hit on countless sleepers because of this diverse group. What other forum had diehard Patriots, Cowboys, Redskins, Pitt, Browns (miss boonies), Vikings, Packers, Chargers, 49ers, Lions( miss Slav), Saints, Bucs, Bronco's, and I'm sure many other loyal fans giving quality fantasy input.

I'm on the bigger and supposedly better sites, but the replies to questions aren't thought out, and typically incorrect. With this group you had a well thought out and accurate response typically fairly fast.

So thanks for everything! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this group in 2006 and rode it until now. I'm not going anywhere this season, and promise to still stop in next year.

Any sort of personal growth or change deeply upsets me.  As such, I cannot support your plans.  I think that you actually need more FF teams/leagues, not less.

Hail, hail…

Will you pull a Farve and un-retire when the draft articles and buzz starts up in late auguts?

btw – I said i was new in a recent post. but the posts I could see only go back to July. I thought this was a much newer forum than that.

I am highly sympathetic and share many of the symptoms & concerns

been playing FFB for 12 yrs & FBB for 28 – increasingly, I find myself happiest in Jan & Feb when I don' have to pay any attention to any rosters or games & eagerly look forward to that time of yr …have given serious consideration to just hanging it up n' only the friendships prevail upon me to keep me going …but it gets tougher every yr  …been ages since I cared about playoff gms or championships since they have no effect on my fantasy tms; half the time, I don't even watch any World Series gms & I used to be a huge BB fan …can't really recall last yr's Superbowl but I know who Da'Rel Scott is n' can remember when Peerless Price looked promising…

tried to just be a casual player in my BB lg n' that doesn't w*rk for me – if I'm gonna be involved at all, I hafta be reading every RWorld blurb every damn day n' tracking 4th-string kids with the talent to possibly climb into the starting lineup if 3 guys in front of 'em contract the plague

n' then you put all that time n' all that effort into it n' go into Sunday with 4 of your 9 starters on the bench w/inj & end up losing to a cupcake n' wondering why the hell you bother with this crap?  while winning makes you feel good for mebbe 10 mins n' then you're pulling up your tm to figure out next wk's optimal lineup &/or how to pluck the best talent off the wire…

and gambling isn't one of my vices & I've never been in a money lg – I'm supposed  to be doing this for fun

so yeah, I hear whatcher sayin' …but I'll lay odds you're still at it next yr…

No I'm done for sure. I have noticed my entire attitude has changed with the NFL and fantasy sports. I took this last Sunday off and spent the day outside with my 3 kids. We hung Christmas lights, played games, and enjoyed life. I checked my fantasy scores at halftime of the noon games, and after the nascar race (watched the last 20 or so laps), and then after supper before the night game.

It was strange as I did have an itch to keep pulling out the smart phone, but wanted to see if I could do it. Looking back at the last 10 Sunday's I can saay this was by far my most enjoyable.

I've contemplated leaving since 2008, and always came back to prove my worth to the league and the friendships. My plan to run the live draft and still have access to the message board is really all I want.

I tried having multiple leagues, I tried to not look at who I was playing or who my opponent was starting, but nothing helped.

Pretty sure I have something like OCD. Whatever I tend to do in life I'm all in. Every hobby, business, or job is balls to the wall. I've rarely gotten burnt out, but I realize that the fun starts to leave. I can't do this as a casual owner, it's just not in my DNA.

Lifer, it's odd the things you say sometimes are literally the exact same thoughts I have at times (especially the OCD part, I just can't do things half-assed despite the fact that things end up being half-assed because of how many things I'm trying to do).

Anywho…I took this year off, and thusfar, aside from a few days I sat and read Rotoworld blurbs, I've kept at it.  It's kind of nice not to have that "responsibility".  I can spend more time with the family, watch the game if I want or not and it makes no difference at all.

Hope all is well with everyone.  Will be back from time to time, and still kicking around the idea of coming back full time next season.  Guess it depends on my schedule.

Based on your post, I would assume you are new around here.  Which makes sense, since this whole forum is new.  However, the group of folks is a mere fraction of a large family of personalities who've migrated multiple times (losing folks along the way), but originally started back on the old Fanball forums, way back when it wasn't a fascist nation.

Doc, a part of me can't wait until this season is over.

I hated this last MNF when I'm totally focused on if Freaking Greg Olsen. He needs 1 catch for 3 yards and I win…. Then he catches a screen and trips on his own feet for a 2 yard gain. Sweating out another catch later in the game just isn't fun for me anymore.

I've asked this forum about walking away before, and you chimed in with similar concerns. I'm out after this season, I've realized since announcing to the league that I won't be back and to look for a replacement how much I don't enjoy this anymore.

I'll never be back as an owner other than possibly filling in at a draft. I haven't listened to one fantasy show all year, can't stand watching fantasy crap on TV, and while at a college football game on Saturday had to leave the area where people were talking about their fantasy teams.

Doc… I also mean it when talking about Cudda going down. It really took out a lot of my fantasy fun. I realize it wasn't just my league, the draft, the game that I enjoyed… But I think my favorite part was that forum, and furball before getting booted out.

Im around. i feel honored to even be spoken in the same breath as the others you mentioned. one thing was true, advice in football among other things was always well thought out and with meaning behind it. Also, our fun was some of the best back and forth I have ever been a part of.

I just moved to Oregon over the start of last season and been working A LOT since I moved here. I still try to check out this place as often as I can.

I routinely don't check my scores until even the start of second games.

One thing, from a FFB perspective, I HATE that there is a Thursday game EVERY WEEK, I wish it was just Thanksgiving. It makes it feel like I have to do moves the next day and it's a constant checking of news and so much lineup maneuvering that I didn't have to do before. There is no way I could do the many leagues I did years ago with a Thursday game every week.

I'm around too. Remember, I host this place. 🙂 I was living in Japan for a while and then I moved, so that whole process has kept me off the forums. I'll be coming back more often now that things have settled down. After the season and the fanatics draft is over, I will be looking at redesigning the site a bit. I am glad we can all still gather here, and I encourage all of you to bring your friends on board too.

Hope you'll still come around, Lifer. I like having the old Cuda guys here.

I, on the other hand , am having some minor medical difficulties that may keep me away for large chunks of the next several months

eye trouble; need cataract surgery …prolly won't happen 'til spring & in the interim there will be (as there have been recently) many days when I just can't see well enough to spend much time on the computer

when I am around, typos are gonna get by that didn't get by me before – my apologies

Best of luck with your surgery.

I have terrible hearing, but vision that is better than 20-20. I don't take my vision for granted and have no idea what I'd do without it.

thanks

toughest part is going to be the wait – won't be done until some yet to be determined time in the spring  …fingers crossed that it doesn't continue to deteriorate in the interim as it's already annoying as hell

Sad to see you go NFLLIFER. It's crazy that I've known a lot of you guys for 10 years now, although truth be told I have been far less active the past 4 ears or so.

I don't think anything will compare to the good ol' Fanball days. Back then I had time to research and write out 1000 word well articulated dissertations. Now I'm lucky to respond with 20 words.

I'll keep the Fanatics league going as long as I can. It's just a shame the way the community has degraded. On to better things NFLL, good for you.

recent absence more due to holiday runaround plus migration to new pc

I know what Asian girls look like, but if you wanna wax poetic describin' em, I wouldn't mind readin' that (esp if accompanied by copious illustrating examples)…

Just wanted to say thanks. Things have changed a lot. I hitched my Wagon on the way out of furball and have enjoyed the party. Fun and knowledge should and do go together. I wish I had more time to post, but being a 44 year old with twin three year olds and a six year old consume my time. The key for me has been to not worry about sticking my nose in the set all of the time. Going out to eat or hanging with the kids doesn't change how my players score. It took some time to figure this out and some bitcing by the wife, but I get it now. It is possible to satisfy the Ffix and spend time with the family. It is nice to chat with some of you still and sad to not see more of the old group. I am thankful to have met you guys and will continue to peek in and add my two cents as time allows.

Professor, Where are you living in Oregon? I haved lived here most of my life and live in the PDX area. Look me up for a beer sometime if you are near. Happy Holidays and be healthy. Good luck on your surgery Memory.
